Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion

Today, Jesus triumphantly enters Jerusalem anticipating the events of the Holy Week when he would undergo his passion, death and resurrection for the salvation of humanity. He was aware of what to expect in Jerusalem, for he had prophesied about it at different times in Matthew 16:21, 17:22, 20:18-19, and yet he willingly allowed himself for it, all for the sake of love. The crowd were jubilant and excited as they welcomed him into Jerusalem. However, they would turn against him to be crucified on Good Friday, and Jesus was aware of these dynamics at play. He nevertheless remained focused on his mission. In the first reading, Isaiah reveals the agony of the suffering servant (Jesus Christ) who, for love, did not retaliate to pains. Therefore, Jesus sets an example of genuine and courageous love that enabled him to accept death, to break the burden of sin that separates us from God. It is difficult to die for a friend, yet Jesus willingly gave up everything for the love of humanity. We are called to appreciate and emulate such love that desires the good of all of God's creation.

PRAYER: Lord, open our hearts to love unconditionally and help us feel your presence in our challenging and hopeless moments. Amen.
