Today, the Church celebrates "Good Shepherd Sunday", and as the Psalmist says, "The Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want" Jesus is our Good Shepherd and Lord who came to die to give us life. A shepherd guides and protects his flock even with his life; that is why Jesus said in the gospel, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." We understand that when the sheep hear the shepherd's voice, they answer and follow, so we must ask ourselves, do we listen to the voice of Jesus, our shepherd who speaks into our ears and hearts? Who warns and cautions us about sin and evil? And who speaks to our minds to make the right decisions? As his sheepfold, Jesus wants us always to recognize and follow his voice. Also, Peter says in the second reading that Christ has left you an example to follow in his steps. We are to follow his leadership pattern, be it at home, in the community, organizations, or nations. There is want of good leadership examples in our world today. Christ, the good shepherd, therefore, gives us the example of the "servant leadership" pattern, where interest is in the care of the flock and not the embezzlement of the sheepfold.
PRAYER: Lord, help me be a good leader to guide those in my care with love for justice and truth and bring them closer to you, Amen.
