Our attitude to prayer

Acts 1:12-14/ Ps 27:1,4,7-8/ I Pet 4:13-16/ Jn 17:1-11

Sometimes, Catholics have been accused of not praying enough. Though in reality, as a Church, we are prayerful, but as individuals, this may not always be the case. Prayer must be in both individual and communal dimensions. In today’s first reading, we are told that all the apostles and the women inclusive prayed in one accord. They devoted themselves to prayer. The gospel of today is part of what is regarded as ‘the high priestly prayer of Jesus.’ In this passage, Jesus poured out his heart to the Father praying for us, and at the same time teaching us how to pray. There are times that some Catholic are invited to lead at prayer at occasions and they seem scared or shy to do so. Prayer should be the most basic communication with God that everyone of us should be able to do as Christians. Let us re-visit how we pray ourselves and teach our young ones to pray in the Church, and at home.

Prayer: Teach me how to pray dear Lord, give me the grace never to shy away from personal and communal prayers. Amen.
