In the first reading, St Paul states, “for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” This was evident in the life of St Charles Borromeo who was a genius. At the age of 21, he received a doctorate degree in civil and canon law. At 22, though still only a deacon, he was appointed administrator of the Archdiocese of Milan. He later became the Archbishop of Milan. He was instrumental to the revision of the Roman Catechism, Missal and Breviary. He was an influential figure during the Counter Reformation against Martin Luther’s ideologies and heresies. He is foremost for the establishment of the seminary system. He reformed his 3,000 clergy; instituted new parishes and monasteries; won innumerable souls from witchcraft and heresy; preached and distributed communion for hours at a stretch. He was indeed a pastor of souls. Charles used his gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the people of God. Whatever gifts, talents or resources that God has given us should be used for his glory and the good of others.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to learn to use my gifts, talents and resources for your own glory and for the good of others. Amen
