We cannot serve two masters

Life will get tough regardless. What matters more is our response. In difficult situations, the weak cave in, but the strong step up and handle things. One difficult area for Christians is total commitment to Christ. “You cannot serve two masters,” he warns us. St. John instructs us not to love the world; if we do then we cannot claim to love God. So, when desperate situations present us with choices that contradict our faith, will we step up and walk our talk? For example, will we engage in corruption or stand to lose something important to us? Will we choose to become rich through immoral means or manage what we have, do our best, and wait on God? Will we cheat in an exam or risk failure? How do we handle the sin of lust, hatred, unforgiveness, and jealousy? It is much easier to fall in these situations than to step up and act as faithful Christians. When we truly choose God, he gives us the grace we need. The saints are proof enough.

Prayer: We have chosen to serve you, Lord. Strengthen us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that we’ll step up when the need arises. Amen.
