THURSDAY THURSDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY

CHOOSE TO FOLLOW JESUS

Every day of our lives we make decisions between various choices we have. We are totally in control of what we do. As we have entered the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday yesterday, some of us may not have prepared adequately for this season, some of us may have just entered as a yearly routine.
Moses in the first reading of today, makes us to understand that the begining of a journey is the best time to decide what to do. It is time for us to decide whether to follow the way of the Lord or the way that leads to destruction. We are to decide whether we will take the lenten observances serious, whether we will strive to live a better life and be close to God or we will continue the way we have been.

Moses tells us in the first reading of today, to choose good instead of evil, light instead of darkness, and to choose serving God instead of man or money or pleasure. This is not an easy journey to embark on, this is why Jesus  says in the gospel reading that "if anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me".

We must constantly renounce ourselves and our pleasures to be at right with God. Who ever accepts to follow Jesus this lenten season, the psalmist today tells us that though it will not be easy, such a person will be like a tree that is planted beside the flowing waters, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves shall never fade; and all that he/she does shall prosper. May that be our portion this lenten season and always. Amen.
