GOD WILL NEVER ABABDON THOSE WHO TRUST HIM*
The book of Daniel has stories of the people of Israel on exile where they demonstrated their faith in God to a pagan nation. Two days ago, we read the story of Sussana who showed much faith in God and was not disappointed. Today we read the popular story of the three Hebrew men, Shedrach, Meshach and Abednigo who also like Sussana showed that it is better to obey God and annoy man than offend God and obey man.
In the first reading of today we see how Nebuchadnezzar the king put their faith to the test by threatening to kill them if they do not worship his god. There are many things we do and offend God because we are under threat of punishment or death. Many of us are ready to easily comply to do what is wrong because of fear of death.
It is true that sometimes we doubt the power of God to save us from the evil one. The three young men were not really expecting a miracle from God to come and save them. They were very convinced that they would not succumb to the evil demands of the king whether God saved them or not. This should be a lesson for us all. Our Christian faith should not be dependent on miracles, but on conviction from the heart that God is with us always, even to the end of time.
We pray that God will fight for us even when we don't expect. Amen.
