TUESDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK Slighting of opportunity

Today’s gospel recounts Jesus’ troubled state as he anticipates the unfolding events of his passion, and particularly, the betrayal from his closest friend. His statement that “one of you will betray me” baffled his disciples, throwing them into a moment of self-examination. He dipped the morsel of bread in wine and gave it to Judas, a traditional sign of intimacy and hospitality, but Judas had made up his mind, so Satan entered him. Jesus sort to help him since God never abandons us even when we plan against him and wander into the darkness of sin. However, like Judas, our inability and lack of cooperation to recognize the moments of grace swerves us away from God. But his voice is never silent in us even when we have made up our minds and plans to succumb to the forces of sin around us. Are we ready and willing to overcome the drive to sin and listen to God’s voice and the invitation to repentance?

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be conscious of, and listen to your voice. May I constantly cooperate with your graces as I journey through life and this period, Amen.
