EASTER WEDNESDAY The healing from charity

Today’s readings illustrate and reveal that acts of charity are excellent sources of complete healing and restoration. The gospel presents Jesus’ charity, appearing after his resurrection to his doubtful disciples who had chosen to return to their former lives. Although their hearts were burning as they listened to him, they could not recognize him even as he taught them the scriptures on their journey to Emmaus. They only gained their total healing, as their eyes opened, when they invited him into their home and shared a meal with him at the table. Peter and John also charitably shared the gift of healing with the lame man at the temple gate, saying, “what I have, I give you....” Healings and miracles are not only from the extraordinary events but rather in the many simple works of charity done in Christ’s name. As we journey towards the Divine Mercy Sunday, Christ calls us to be conscious of the abundant graces available in the spiritual and corporal works of mercy as we relate with people.

PRAYER: Lord, open the eyes of my mind to always do simple but beautiful works of charity in your name, and for your glory. Amen.
