Today’s readings invite us to reflect on the promise of the risen Lord to be present with us always. He is present in his word and the breaking of the bread (the Eucharist), both forming one single act of worship in the Holy Mass. The invitation by the Emmaus disciples to Jesus “stay with us” is the true meaning of Jesus in the Eucharist. They invited Jesus into their home and their troubled world, and at the breaking of bread, Jesus opened the eyes of their mind and saved them from the terror of fear. Jesus continues, in the same way, to accompany us on our different journeys in life and makes himself available for us to invite him into our worlds. Do we use the opportunities he affords us to invite him into our daily experiences and lives? The same Lord who accompanies us when we journey in confusion and fear also comes under our roof to clear these worries and anxieties. However, we must learn to say, “stay with us Lord in our home, stay with us Lord in our communities, stay with us Lord in our nation, stay with us Lord in our world, and stay with me Lord in my heart.” By this, Jesus would always be with us to help us in our troubled and challenging moments in life.
PRAYER: Risen Jesus, stay with us in life’s journey that we may encounter you daily in your word and the Eucharist. Amen!
