SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER The presence of God calms every storm

The human person is a social being that socializes with other individuals around. However, tensions arise from misunderstandings or different interests whenever people assemble in organizations, institutions, communities, or societies. In the first reading, although the apostles were responsible for the Christian community, they sought the community's opinion before making their decision — a lesson for those holding positions of authority to be more understanding and accommodating of others. Also, the Christian community allowed the Holy Spirit to direct them through prayers and discernment, a vital attitude for our world today. In the gospel, Jesus encouraged his frightened disciples as he walked towards their boat on the sea: "It is I, do not be afraid." He speaks to us also in our situations today, "My child, it is I, do not be afraid, permit me to journey with you in your boat, that you may reach the shore safely." Let us always invite Jesus into our lives and communities to help us overcome our fears, challenges, and disappointments.

PRAYER: Lord, give us the grace to recognize your presence in the stormy moments of our life; and so, call out to you in faith and hope. Amen.
