With poverty and joblessness in different parts of the world, many people fall prey to social, economic, political, and religious fraudsters. As a result, there is a rise of the prosperity gospel and miracle-working centers deceiving people in Christ's name. But unfortunately, when these promises do not come to pass, the followers are further blamed for their lack of faith, and the circle continues. In the first reading, Peter warns Christians to be watchful because "your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of all Christians in the world." Jesus did not come to eliminate suffering, but he came to strengthen us to face our crosses to calvary. St. Mark, whose feast we celebrate today, was significantly involved in spreading the faith and developing the early Church, especially in Africa, and gave his life for it. So, what are our attitudes to God's word? Do we allow our experiences to dictate our reaction to the gospel or allow the gospel to impact our lives?
PRAYER: Lord God, help me to see your face in life's challenges. Amen.
