The hope of incorruptible glory

Acts 1:1-11/ Ps 47:2-3. 6-7. 8-9 (6)/ Eph 1:17-23/ Mt 28:16-20

Forty days after his resurrection, Jesus was taken up to heaven while his disciples looked on. Today, we are left with the feelings of uncertainty and wonder, as we, with the disciples, watch and contemplate him ascend into glory. Our many fears and questions are addressed by two outstanding gifts; the promise of an ever-abiding Spirit that will be given to us as well as the joy and hope of incorruptible glory, visualized in his own ascension. The letter to the Ephesians states that Christ has received his glory at the right hand of the Father and shares it with all who are called to be believers. Death does not have the final say anymore. At Ascension, we are commissioned to “go and make disciples of all nations.” It is the start of the Church’s journey with Christ, who though ascended, abides always with us, helping us to understand our life here on earth better, while working and looking forward to life eternal.

Prayer: Almighty Father, your son ascended in glory, leaving us his Spirit to guide and help us, so that we may also attain the incorruptible glory. Give us the grace to always abide in his love and strive to attain the same glory he has prepared for us. Amen.
