Acts 20:17-27/ Ps 68:10-11.20-21/ Jn 17:1-11a
As Jesus and Paul came close to the end of their ministries, as seen in today’s gospel and first reading, they had a sense of fulfillment and accountability in what they were able to do. In his prayer, Jesus said that he had glorified the Father and finished the work that he was given to bring eternal life to all those entrusted to him. In his farewell speech to the elders of the Church of Ephesus, Paul asserted that he had served the Lord in humility and done all that was helpful to them, and hence, his conscience was clear since he never failed in his responsibilities. Could the same be said of me? Am I accountable for all those God put along my path of life or mission? As Christians, we should endeavour to have this sense of fulfillment that we have done what ought to be done, or what is within our capacity to do for God and our neighbour each day.
Prayer: O Lord, help me to know that I have some responsibility for the salvation and wellbeing of all those you have placed along my path. May I never be found wanting in giving my best to you and my life’s vocation. Amen
