Being united in prayer

Acts 20:28-38/ Ps 68:29-30. 33-35a.35bc-36ab/ Jn 17:11b-19

Beside prayers of thanksgiving and adoration, another very important form of prayer is interceding for others.  When we forget ourselves and pray for others, we are following the example of Christ and the early disciples. Paul in the first reading of today prayed and commended the Church of Ephesus to God for its unity. In the gospel, Jesus prayed to his heavenly Father for the unity of his disciples. Imagine how heartbreaking Jesus must be seeing how some ministers of our churches and other religious leaders fan the embers of hatred, disunity and discord. We are at a point where some Christians are unwilling to work with one another, not to talk of praying for one another. We are invited to constantly pray for one another and for Christian unity. If as Christians, we cannot be united in any other thing, let us be united in prayers.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give us the grace to watch out for one another in love and prayers, and to be always united in you. Amen.
