A mother who leads us in doing God’s will

Gen 3:9-15. 20 or Acts 1:12-14/ Ps 87:1-2. 3and 5. 6-7(R3)/ Jn 19:25-34

Today, we celebrate the memorial of Mary Mother of the Church. She is the mother of the universe and a worthy companion of the pilgrim Church on its way to heaven. While Adam had said that that his disobedience of God was caused by the woman that God gave him, Jesus in the new dispensation, gave another woman to the beloved disciple, whom according to scholars, represented the Church and humanity at the foot of the cross. This woman is Mary who leads the Church in doing God’s will at all times. While the old Eve, became a channel of disobedience, the new Eve, that Jesus has given us as our mother, leads us to obey, love, know and worship God. Today, the Church unlike Adam, cries out in appreciation to God for the gift of our Blessed Mother.

Prayer: Give us the grace, O Lord, to love the Blessed Virgin Mary whom you gave us as our mother, and may she continue to teach us how to do your will at all times. Amen.
