Finding happiness in life may be a little difficult especially when we expect it to come from people or things. There are certain things the world considers as being against happiness; even in these, Jesus wants us to draw some joy as seen in the beatitudes in today’s gospel. St Paul tells the Church in Corinth that Christ is with them in their sufferings and comforts them in their sorrows. They become experienced that they help others by their testimony. In other words, suffering has an advantage too. Jesus is with us in our sufferings. That in itself is a cause for joy; it is soothing.

PRAYER: O Jesus, help me recognise that you are always with me even when everywhere seem dark and shallow. Amen
