Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.  The twelve promises our Lord made to St Margaret Mary Alacoque to families who honour his sacred heart are popular among devotees of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and they are proofs of God’s love for humanity. Jesus’ heart is one after the heart of the Father, who so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to die for our sins. The heart of Jesus continuously glows with love and zeal to win humanity to himself. The heart of Jesus is the symbol of God’s love. The love of the Father is praised in the first reading. It is a love that endures forever. God loves us even in our limitedness. St John in the second reading declares that God is love. Sacrificial love is the peak of love (Jn 15:13). The Father demonstrated this by giving us his only begotten son. Jesus also willingly sacrificed himself to save us all.  This heart of love invites us to lay the burden of our life upon him. His heart bleeds when he sees us suffer, he desires to remedy it. We can be grateful to this love by ensuring that we would always let love lead. We can also be grateful by not hurting the heart that loves us so much by our sins.
