ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME  - Present in our helplessness

When the Israelites were at the verge of being eliminated as they faced the Red Sea, and they felt helpless, God intervened, and rescued them. Prior to the Red Sea experience, he had performed signs and wonders in order to snatch his people away from the Egyptians. He indeed bore them “on eagle’s wings” as he reminds them in today’s first reading. According to the second reading, while we were still helpless sinners, Jesus came to our rescue. By his death and resurrection, he reconciled us with the Father and we have become co-heirs of the kingdom. The gospel continues with the theme of helplessness. The crowds were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus recruited more hands to alleviate their suffering. God is still in the business of intervening in our helplessness. We need him to intervene in our spiritual life, business, family, state, country and the world at large; to help us in our various stages of helplessness. He has always intervened in history to help us in our misery. God wants more hands in the ministry of intervention. He wants us to alleviate someone from his or her helplessness. Be the answer to someone’s prayer.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I am tired of trying to do it by myself. Remember me and help me in my helpless situation. Amen
