There are various reasons why people judge others. It could be because they found themselves in a position where they necessarily have to pass judgment. Some judge in order to impose a feeling of dominance over another person. Jesus is not asking us not condemn evil, or oppose unjust treatment and behaviour; he is only asking us to be careful not to over place ourselves. There are three reasons why we should be slow at passing judgments. First, we do not know the circumstance that led one to act or make a particular choice. Since we do not know the whole story, we should suspend judgment. Secondly, people tend to add prejudices and assumptions while making judgments. We may become harsh when we do not know or like the person, and soft when there is a personal connection involved. Thirdly, we may not be immune to the very act we judge. Exposed to the same situation, we may not act differently. And so, since God knows the secret intentions of all, he alone has the right to judge. We should rather spend time improving ourselves.
PRAYER: Loving Father, open my eyes to see the blind spots of life. Help me to be lowly and considerate like your son Jesus Christ. Amen
