Jesus came for all

In the gospel of today, Matthew was called from his tax office to become an apostle of Christ. Subsequently, Jesus had dinner with him and his friends. The Pharisees who did not like this said: “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” (Matthew 9:11). Note that the Pharisees did not speak to Jesus directly but they went to his disciples. There are still people who act like the Pharisees in our society, families, places of work, and most importantly in our churches. Those who behave like the Pharisees are judgmental and do not see others as good enough.  Such people often forget that we all are sinners in need of God’s mercy (cf. Romans 10:13). Check yourself and ensure that you do not behave like the Pharisees. Be the kind of person that commend and not condemn; that encourages other and not discourage them. Remember: Jesus came for all.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus here I am today in need of your mercy. Be merciful to me a sinner. Amen.
