As Christians, we must be people who are humble and simple of heart. The gospel of today begins with Jesus' prayer of thanksgiving to his Father for hiding the truth from those who considered to be wise by the world's standards. Instead, the gospel has been revealed to those that the unbelieving world dismisses as mere children. Those who are wise according to the world’s standard tend to overestimate the value of their own minds. Intelligence comes with the temptation to explain away anything a person does not like or prefer. This is not fundamentally different from the way people with great wealth can fool themselves into thinking they need nothing and no one else, not even God. On the other hand, the humble and simple of heart are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Jesus likens the humble and simple of heart to little children. 

PRAYER
Lord my God, please help me by your grace to possess a humble and simple heart. Amen.
