SAINTS MARTHA, MARY AND LAZARUS - JOHN 11:19-27

Let your faith come alive

On this memorial of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus who were siblings, let us learn some lessons from the faith of Martha in particular. Today’s gospel recounts the visit of Jesus to Mary and Martha after the death of their brother Lazarus. In the midst of this great sorrow, Martha did not lose faith in Christ. When Jesus declared to her that he is the resurrection and life, and then asked Martha: “Do you believe this?” Martha answered Jesus: “Lord I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God...”  Two things happen to our faith when we are in great difficulty or facing a great challenge: Our faith in God is either lost or it increases. The question for you is: What happens to your faith in the face of challenges? Martha’s undying faith yielded result. Jesus brought her brother back to life. Steven Tyler once wrote: “Every life has a measure of sorrow, and sometimes this is what awakens us”. Are you able to still believe that God is in charge even when facing challenges? Let your faith come alive! Hold onto your God.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, your word today gives me courage. No matter what comes my way, I will learn to believe in you. Amen.
