In today’s gospel, Jesus teaches about the mustard seed which is the smallest of all seeds but when planted grows to become the largest of trees that birds perch in its branches. There are three important lessons we can learn from this: (1) Size does not matter to God: You will never be too small for God. As a matter of fact, you’re just the right size for God to use you right now. God is more concerned with what you are becoming, than with what size you are right now. (2) God wants you to grow: God always starts small and builds from there. God wants to make what is small bigger just like a seed grows into a plant. Hence, do not despise your little beginning, for every big thing today started small. (3) There is nothing beyond your ability: Even though you see yourself and what you have as small, you can do great things. David was not older or bigger than the soldiers in Saul’s army, but God used him to defeat a giant named Goliath. When God is with you, there is nothing you cannot do.
