Transfiguration of the Lord

Divine approval

Today, the Church celebrates the Transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain in the presence of three of his closest disciples. Jesus, revealed his glory to these disciples so that they might have a glimpse of his true identity. The gospel of today recounts that while on the mountain with Peter, James and John, his face shone like the sun and his clothes were dazzling white; then Elijah and Moses appeared and talked with him. Interestingly, after this divine manifestation during which the voice of the Father was heard approving the mission of Jesus with the disciples as witnesses, Jesus knew that he did not need anybody to convince him of his mission, neither did he need human approval. Human consent or agreement are not as important as divine approval. Often times, many of us ignore the voice of God in search for human approval. While embarking on a venture, goal or action, our interest should first be in getting divine approval. We should not live our lives based mostly on people’s impression or opinion of us. We should not display our talents, wealth or good physique to draw unnecessary attention to ourselves. What is most important is to try to be alright with God, and we shall achieve our purpose in life.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to always seek your approval before embarking on any task in my life. Amen
