No longer two but one

In today’s Gospel, the Pharisees asked about marriage and divorce because it was one of the burning issues of their day. To test him, they wanted to know what Jesus had to say about the command of Moses in Deut. 24:1-4, that a man could divorce his wife under certain grounds. Jesus reminded them of the intention of God, when he created Adam and fashioned one wife for him (Gen.1:27-28; 2:18-25). Jesus taught them that God instituted marriage as an indissoluble union, long before the Mosaic Law. Furthermore, the Church teaches that marriage is a spiritual contract with a divine stamp. It is the plan of God that one man should be joined to one woman, so that both would become one mind, one heart, and one body that only death can separate. Thus, as a sacred union, both parties should fully understand the challenges and responsibilities involved in marriage, so that, once lawfully contracted, they will be prepared to cooperate with the grace of God, accepting whatever challenges that may arise in their marriage.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, may you visit every troubled home and bless it with your love once more. Amen
