Persevere in serving the Lord

Having observed the growing syncretism among the people, according to the first reading of today, Joshua addressed them thus: “Choose today whom you would serve, whether the God that your ancestors served or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are now living”. Though the people professed to serve the Lord, considering all that the Lord had done for them, Joshua reminded them that as a jealous God, He does not admit of rivalry and wastes no time in punishing offenders. To serve the Lord means loving, obeying and worshiping him in truth and in spirit. Many today have the sincere desire to serve the Lord but have allowed the quest for material things, and flinching comfort to turn them into insincere servants of God. However, even when our service of God is not yet whole and perfect, we must not lose hope, but continue to persevere all the days of our life, just like St. John Eudes, whose memorial we celebrate today.

PRAYER: Through the grace of your Holy Spirit, may I worship and serve you truly all the days of my life my Lord. Amen
