Inasmuch as we are grateful for the advancement of science that has helped to avert certain disasters, we are also aware that there are limits to what science can predict or prevent. No science can claim to know when the Lord will come or the exact moment a person will die. In the Gospel reading of today, Jesus told his disciples to be alert and awake at all times because the coming of the Lord will be sudden. Just like auto accidents which happen when we least expect, so will the coming of the saviour be. Sadly, many live as if they are the architects of their lives. We often behave and make future plans forgetting that we are accountable to a higher authority who owns time. According to Jesus, happy indeed is that servant whom the master finds doing good; he shall be greatly rewarded. However, for the one who forgets that he/she is accountable and sets out behaving carelessly, he/she shall be sent to the same fate as the hypocrite. Therefore, let us strive to always be in the state of grace so that we may receive the heavenly reward when the Lord comes.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to always be at my duty post all the days of my life. Amen
