The gospel passage of today tells us that when daylight came, Jesus left the house and went to a lonely place. Many are the passages which suggest that Jesus was in love with this “lonely place”. Anyone who has not this lonely place to return to again and again is in danger: he or she is spiritually irrelevant to the men or women of our time. It is not surprising for such a person to become “tired of life”, easily bored and complaining that life has lost its meaning. But it is also possible to be in a lonely place and yet produce no good fruit. Someone whose lonely time is not aimed at a genuine connection with God but only with self may only end up a narcissist engrossed with the self, not in love with God.
PRAYER: Teach me, Lord, to fall in love with silence through which my soul may seek and find you.
