Standing by the cross was his mother, Mary. She shared in his moment of anguish and pain. A friend in need is truly a friend. She did not shy away from suffering with the son. There are mothers who, because they are not ready for children, abandon their babies in waste bins. Mary teaches us what a true mother should be. She stood there at the foot of the cross. She experienced all through the prophecy of Simeon in Lk 2:35: “and a sword will pierce your own soul too”. Has the sword pierced your own soul too because of someone you love? What do you do at such moment – escape from loving further or do you persist in love?

PRAYER: We desire Lord to stand by you in all your trails. We hand our fears over to you; give us your courage. Amen
