Silence is golden but there are times when speech is required to calm situations. Such was the situation in today’s gospel when the centurion sent words to Jesus saying, “say the word and let my servant be healed”. Words that spring forth from silence and are animated by faith have one effect; they are miraculous. “Speak the word”, he said. Not “make the noise”. Many a word in our time is so often a noise blaring like an unwanted siren. We must learn to speak words that pave way for healing, words that mend broken hearts, words that herald joy and awaken the spirit of men and women to bring out the best in them.
PRAYER: Lord, speak your word to the spirit of every man and woman in our time and let the dead and the sleeping capacities in us, spring back to life. Amen.
