Forsake your thoughts

Every sin originates from our thoughts. Therefore, every sin could be eliminated through the control of our thinking. The first reading asks us to forsake our thoughts and so return to the Lord. To honour  Christ in our bodies (second reading) can only be preceded by self-control which in essence, is really thought control. Purity of consciousness is what is required for only the pure in heart shall see God. How often we fill our minds with all sorts of impurities like the first group of hired labourers in the gospel today who “grumbled at the householder” for paying them and the last comers the same amount. Jesus ends the parable with the conclusion that “the last will be first, and the first last.” Yes, that is how dangerous evil thoughts can be. Forsake your thoughts, you unrighteous one, the first reading warns.

PRAYER: Send forth your light and your truth, Lord; let this guide my thoughts. Amen
