The challenges of witnessing to Christ

“Shalom” is the Hebrew word for “Peace” meaning “to be safe in mind or body.” It speaks of an inward sense of “completeness” and “wholeness”. It is in this sense that Jesus speaks of peace. “Peace” was to be the first salutation of the 70 emissaries whom he sent ahead of him in pairs. Whoever welcomed their salutation of peace was wholly and completely disposed to receive the gospel message. This message was not to be preached by coercion for a good soil welcomes a good seed. Jesus also knew some will reject them; and so, he sent them in pairs so that they will encourage each other when the going got tough. Life will throw unfair and undeserved garbage on us even when we mean well but we should not be discouraged. As we carry God’s message on daily basis to the doorsteps of others through our words and actions, let’s not despair because of the oppositions we face. There will always be something good around us to keep us going. Let this be our strength and encouragement.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us not to relent in bearing witness to you amidst the rejection of the world. Amen.
