In the 6th century, the Turks waged war against the Christians. Through the prayers of the rosary, the Christians triumphed in the battle and Pope Pius V believed it was through Mary’s intercession that victory was won. He then dedicated that day to Our Lady of Victory. Pope Gregory XIII later changed the name to Our Lady of the Rosary teaching that Mary’s intercession saves us from danger. Mary encouraged praying the rosary in her apparitions. When she appeared to St Bernadette, she had a rosary in her hands. The rosary is a circle of beads that many today wear for fashion losing the spiritual significance. Just as the apostles rejoiced today that Satan submitted to them; the rosary is a powerful weapon to defeat Satan. According to one of the saints, “as the stones were in the hands of David, so are the beads of the rosary in the hands of the children of God.” The rosary takes its inspiration from the gospel which reveals how powerful it is. If only we know what each bead of the rosary does to the devil when we pray it, we will all pick up our rosaries. Now is the time to pick it up.
Prayer: Our Lady Queen of the Rosary; pray for us. Amen.
