The kingdom of God is near

Satan ensnares Christians by convincing us that we have time. Lots of it. With this mindset, we procrastinate, and even live as though life will never end. In today’s gospel, Jesus speaks about the coming of God’s kingdom. He reminds us that one day life as we know it will end, and God’s kingdom will be established. It’s irrevocable. These reflections should never frighten us, but rather help us to put our lives and homes in order. Interestingly, though sadly, some early Christians, lured by worldly things and realities, also threw caution to the wind and lived carelessly. Some even denied that Jesus would return. Peter warned and reminded them that the day of the Lord “will come like a thief … the heavens will pass away …. the earth and everything done on it will be found out” (2 Peter 3:10). He invited them to live holy lives, as they wait for the Lord. What about us? Do we live as though eternal life does not matter?

Prayer: Lord, may we always be mindful that life will one day end, and live lives worthy of eternal rewards. Amen.
