One problem that kills a relationship is saying one thing and doing another. This glaring contradiction can frustrate the one at the receiving end and even lead to the end of the relationship. Our relationship with God is no different. Today, Jesus reminds us that calling him “Lord, Lord” is great, only if we back this proclamation with corresponding deeds. Many Christians today simply live as they choose, and refuse to listen or heed the word of God. Jesus compares this to a “stupid man who built his house on sand.” Today, we celebrate St. Ambrose of Milan, a great man who so much proclaimed Christ in his words and exemplary deeds that he was chosen to be a bishop before he was even baptized. What a testimony! He was baptized, ordained, and installed as bishop of Milan within a week. Well, you and I are not St. Ambrose. And we do not have to be. We just need to be wise – by proclaiming the Lord by our words and actions.
Prayer: Lord, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Increase your grace in us so that like St. Ambrose we may proclaim you in word and deed. Amen.
