Philip and James - Channels of grace

Reflections:
Today, we celebrate the feast of the Apostles Philip and James whose relics are kept in the church of the twelve apostles in Rome. Philip in the gospel, asked a question that many Christians continue to ask even up to date, “show us the father and we shall be satisfied.” Jesus’ answer remains relevant for us also – To have seen and experienced him is to have seen the Father. It is possible that we have been with Jesus all these while and still do not know him. We encounter him daily in the word and sacraments.  God wants us to know him in his son, Jesus; and he has given us all access to know him. Hence, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” We celebrate the apostles because of the grace of God given to them, and their openness to receive such grace through Jesus who is the way. We must never allow the many channels of grace given to us in the word and sacraments to waste.

Prayer: Give me grace, O Lord, that I may recognise you in the word and the Eucharist present always to me. Amen!
