Do you love me more than these?

Acts 25: 13b-21/ Ps 103:1-2.11-12. 19-20ab/ Jn 21:15-19

Today’s gospel recounts a scene in the appearance of Jesus to his disciples at Lake Tiberias after his resurrection. Jesus at three different times ask Peter the question: “Do you love me?” Have you ever been asked a similar question by someone before? How did you feel being asked? Such a question can be seen as an invitation to affirm, choose and assert our preference and acceptance of the one asking over any other. This is the question that Jesus asks each one of us. He wants us to assert that we love him more than any other, and will choose him, and his will no matter what. This question is one that each one of us must give our individual answer to Christ. Peter and Paul chose Christ, and they asserted their love by the way they lived and died. Jesus is also asking you: “Do you love me more than these others do?”

Prayer: I love you Lord, my God with all my heart. I promise to love you all the days of my life. Amen
