Acts 28:16-20. 30-31/ Ps 11:4. 5 and 7/ Jn 21: 20-25
The beloved disciple, mentioned in the gospel of today, lived longer because, Jesus wanted him to. The purpose of remaining in the world and delaying the glory of heaven was for him to bear witness to the truth and the hope of things yet to be seen. St. Paul, in the first reading of today, is in chain for the same reason. Do I have hope in something eternal? What am I willing to be in chain for? There are many Christians who are in chain for their passions and other things except for the hope of the life of glory. It would be a wasted life if we live it here in chain for things other than the heavenly glory.
Prayer: Lord God, help me to delay gratification for the sake of the kingdom you promised, so that I may be worthy to receive glory and joy untold when you come. Amen.
