UGANDAN MARTYRS (Courage amidst adversity)

Today, the Church remembers the courageous young men in Uganda who, between 1885 and 1887, choose death over denying their faith. They were mainly converts into the Catholic faith. Charles Lwanga was instrumental in encouraging the young men to be resilient in their belief. They were tortured and put to death in various ways. Charles Lwanga himself was tortured and burnt to death on the Thursday of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.  God expects us to be unshaken by threats to our faith. He wants us to hold on to the Christian virtues we profess irrespective of where it may lead us to at the end of the day.

PRAYER: O God, make me courageous in the midst of anxiety. Help me to always testify of your goodness.
