Today we celebrate the inner mystery of the nature of God who is three persons in one. The three persons are of the same nature, co-equal, undivided, and co-eternal. Genesis 1:2 provides us a clue of the trinity by the participation of the three persons (The Father, the Word and the Wind or Spirit of God) in creation. Also, the phrase “let us” was used in Gen 1:26 and 11:7 as God acted in unison. One of the New Testament expressions of the triune God is found in today’s second reading. Even though our human mind is not capable of fully comprehending the nature of the triune God, we know that God is a “community” of love. The Trinity is the fullness of love. Today’s first reading tells us that God is merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and full of love. Jesus is the physical expression of that love. The gospel tells us that God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son (Jn 3:16). The Holy Spirit, which proceeds from the Father and the Son, pours this love into our hearts (Rom 5:5). Hence, the Holy Trinity teaches us that for any family, group and community to survive and be effective, it must be bonded by love. Love breeds mutual respect, understanding, sacrifice, peace and unity of purpose. This is how we participate in the life of the Trinity. Let us then pray for the increase of love in our world.
PRAYER: Lord God, make my family united as yours. Amen
