Whenever the life of an apostle or saint is celebrated, we are to learn lessons from it. James was the brother of John. In today’s gospel, their mother came to request that they be given the two highest positions. This was naked ambition and selfishness which caused a disagreement among the apostles. James later became a transformed person. He was the first apostle to bear witness to Christ with his life. He was killed by Herod. From selfishness to selflessness. He gave up his life for the sake of Christ. You need to have the attitude of selflessness. To please God, you must develop an attitude of selfless service to others. Your service today is a seed that will cause you to reap a harvest tomorrow. Dr. Mike Murdock once said “What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.” Assisting others to see the fulfilment of their visions makes God assist you in the fulfilment of your own vision.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, bestow on me a selfless spirit. Help me to be of help to others and to serve without complaint. May I live always pleasing you. Amen
