Do you remember the rich man in Matt. 19:16-30, who asked Jesus what he must do to receive eternal life, and was told to go give up his possessions? It is believed that he probably did not make heaven because he loved his possessions more than the eternal life which he desired. One of the principles of life is that, you must give something in order to gain another. We often trade what is of lower value for that which is higher. Some persons have given up their jobs for the good of their families and others have given up marriage, inheritance, and children for the sake of the kingdom of God. In the Gospel of today, Jesus likened the kingdom of God to a treasure of great value, which a man discovered in a field, ran off, sold all he possessed and bought the field. Jesus is our greatest treasure, and to possess him, we must be ready to give up all other mundane possessions else, we would stand the risk of not partaking of the great treasure in heaven.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace not to price any material thing more than my love for you. Amen
