The text from the first reading that asks us to set our minds on heavenly things is phenomenal. Mindset is everything. Everything in the world works against the person with the wrong mindset but everything cooperates with the person with the proper mindset even if temporarily, things seem to work against him/her. Even when failure comes visiting, if our minds are set on heavenly things, we recover from the failure with some speed where this same failure nails the coffin and buries the one with mind set on the things of the earth. St. John Chrysostom whom we celebrate today had his mind set on heaven, and from the fullness of his heart’s experience of Christ his mouth spoke of God’s goodness. He was even called John of the golden mouth.
PRAYER: Teach me Lord to seek the things that are above and to love only what really matters and not to pursue shadows. Amen
