Cooperating with our Guardian Angels

Each one of us has a guardian angel; this is proven biblically. An angel saved Ishmael from famine (Gen. 21:17), saved Isaac from being sacrificed (Gen 22:11-12), led Lot out of Sodom (Gen 19:15-16), and protected the Israelites (Ex 23:20). An angel preserved Daniel in the Lion’s den (Dan 6:22), and healed Tobit and Sara from blindness and Asmodeus (Tobit 12:14-15). Also, an angel saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace (Dan 3:25; 28), and saved Paul from prison (Acts 5:19). So we all have guardian angels, and we can only respond better to their guidance when we begin to develop that inner humility of listening more to God whom these angels worship and serve. When we allow God to direct our choices in life, he will then command our guardian angels to lead us towards realising those choices. This call to humble listening is what Jesus underscored by the symbol of a little child in the gospel of today.

Prayer: O my guardian angel, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day. Be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
