The grace of God is an unmerited favour that we enjoy purely out of God’s mercy. We lost God’s friendship but he won us back through grace in the death of his Son Jesus Christ. We do not merit this because of man’s disobedience to God his Creator. But God won us back out of his grace and mercy. This grace of God is constantly at work in us to turn our hearts from sinning since we have known sin and are prone to it by the fall of man. But this only works when we open our hearts and dispose ourselves to the working of God’s grace. Jesus warns us to be alert when he comes knocking at the doors of our hearts. And it is only the vigilant that will open the doors of their hearts for him to come in. To be vigilant or alert is simply to cooperate with God’s grace reprimanding us not to sin. When we do this, we keep ourselves pure and ready for the Lord’s final coming.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, as we thank you for the free gift of your grace, we pray for the courage to respond readily to its promptings. Amen
