We disguise a multitude of underlying problems and issues under our dressing. One can never guess the pains or turbulent emotions behind the designer suit or expensive wears. Don’t we all have something that is broken within us that needs fixing? Our families and marriages need fixing. Our friendships and relationships need fixing, including our relationship with God. Our scarred hearts and souls need fixing. In the first reading, Isaiah speaks about God “binding up the wounds of his people” and that he “will heal the bruises left by his blows”. The Psalmist tells us that “he heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.” In the gospel Jesus went about teaching and curing every disease and illness. He was moved with pity for them. They were troubled and abandoned. Advent is a season of healing. Healing ushers in peace in our minds, hearts, souls, homes and relationships. What part can you play in your healing and your loved ones’ healing? A humble examination of conscience, a good confession, and a sincere desire to do better will be a good start.
Prayer: Lord, look with compassion on us, your broken children, and grant us your healing. Amen.
