Rekindling our love

The Song of Songs is a beautiful celebration of love, similar to God’s love for his people, or Christ’s love for his Church. It also applies to lovers, couples, and friendships. Today’s passage is the bride’s response to the groom’s wooing in previous verses. It is truly fitting as we feel the magical love of Christ’s birth in the air. Apart from buying gifts for one another, couples especially should find time to reminisce over their initial encounters and how far they have come in their love and marriage. Do you still give unsolicited affirmations to each other? Do you still boost each other’s self-image, and cater to each other’s needs? Are you secure in each other’s love? Or is the marriage threatened by betrayal or diminishing love? Men, like Joseph, do you provide good leadership for your families, without making your wives subservient? Jesus loves us beyond measure, and chose to be born for us. May we savor his love and find ways to love him back.

Prayer: Almighty God, you are love itself. Help us to truly know and experience the depths of your love in the birth of your Son. Amen.
